You Never Know

January 30, 2010

I see this today linked on the front page of Drudge.

Hard to say if it will ever make a diffence, but at least the BCS is feeling the heat.

Open Thread

January 27, 2010

A new thread just so we don’t have to scroll down through a gillion comments to see what is what. I will put one up every now and then to “clear the decks”, so to say. And of course we will have a Soooper Bowl thread. Probably should get some skin in here too.

232 Days Left…

January 12, 2010

…until kollej football starts up again.

That sucks, but what will be great will be the great “unwinding” of the UsUC program. Carroll pulled a real fast one there. We knew he was cheating all along.

But seriously, can any program be that dominant for that long without violating the rules? I really don’t think so in this day and age of kfb. Lets look at USC’s schedule for next year.

09/02/10 at Hawai’i Honolulu, Hawaii TBA
09/11/10 vs. Virginia L.A. Coliseum TBA
09/18/10 vs. Minnesota Minneapolis, Minn. TBA
09/25/10 at Washington State Pullman, Wash. TBA
10/02/10 vs. Washington L.A. Coliseum TBA
10/09/10 at Stanford Palo Alto, Calif. TBA
10/16/10 vs. California L.A. Coliseum TBA
10/30/10 vs. Oregon L.A. Coliseum TBA
11/06/10 vs. Arizona State L.A. Coliseum TBA
11/13/10 at Arizona Tucson, Ariz. TBA
11/20/10 at Oregon State Corvallis, Ore. TBA
11/27/10 vs. Notre Dame L.A. Coliseum TBA
12/04/10 at UCLA Rose Bowl TBA

Their outside of the Pac Ten games are pretty weak. Maybe they will get off next year without a horrible season, but the recruits will start heading to other teams. This does nothing but help the rest of the Pac Ten.

I won’t shed one tear if USC goes on suspension or sucks it up out there. Serves them all right. And Pete Carroll gets away with all of it and a gigantic contract to coach the chickens.

I will put a youtube of the proceedings up sometime this weekend, or perhaps Monday.

Playoff Pool?

January 8, 2010

I have come up with a somewhat lame, but workable pretty good idea for a playoff pool.  First we need to find out how many people want to play.  Each player will randomly receive teams.  My daughters will choose which players get what teams – we will use scraps of paper and pull them out of a hat.  Once a team is chosen it will be discarded so nobody else can receive that team.  After a player has received his or her allotment of teams, that name will be discarded and the process continues until all teams are evenly distributed (see examples below).  I will video it and put it on youtube and post it here so you all know it is fair.  The winner of the pool has the winning team of the Super Bowl.  One premium sixer for the entry per person.

If we have an odd number of players, the team(s) that is left in the hat are claimed by nobody.   If an unclaimed team wins the Super Bowl, nobody wins the pool.  This at least gives us a rooting interest since none of us really have any sort of rooting interest besides hatred levels.

Examples:

12 teams, four players, three teams per player.

12 teams, three players, four teams per player.

12 teams, five players, two teams per player, two unclaimed  two players get three teams, three get two teams

12 teams, 7 players, one team per player, five teams unclaimed five players get two teams, two get one team

etc. etc.  If anyone has a better idea, let me know.

I will have my kids pick the teams tomorrow morning.  Deadline for entry is 9am Saturday morning.  I won’t be able to upload the video until Monday, so I will time stamp it so everyone can see it is legit.  I will put up a post so everyone knows their teams.

Drop your name in the comments to state that you are in.

UPDATE:  I have decided to scrap the unclaimed teams.  After each player receives his or her allotment of teams, ALL the players names go back into the hat and we pick the remaining teams and assign them to players.  Max of one extra team per player – so if you receive an extra team, your name is discarded and the process continues until all 12 teams are distributed.

TB

January 8, 2010

Congrats to TB who wins the bowl pool since he didn’t know to slide the game rankings – and he made some good picks to rack up the late points.  Next year my kids pick my games with randomly assigned points – whats the worst that can happen – I lose?

So jj – email TB’s addy to all of the other participants if you would so we can pay.  NFL playoffs start tomorrow.

Bowl 34

January 7, 2010

Well, kfb fans, this is it – the last game of the year and the one that decides who is the second best in the land after Boise landed their second national championship in five years just a few days ago.  The pool is close!  This game will decide it.  The Rook only has five points available tonight, while TB since he didn’t shuffle his points at all is left with a whopping 34.  Who will go with whom?  If they both choose ‘Bama, as I suspect, the Rook will instantly become a huge Texas fan.  More importantly, I am assured of not ending up in the cellar, thank god.  I look to improve by one or two places.  Still not good enough – my daughters get a shot at my bowl picks next year fo sho.

Anyways, lets enjoy this last game of the year!

As for the blog, it will still be somewhat active, in that I will put up threads for the NFL playoffs.  After that, as usual, we update maybe once a week or so until kfb starts up again next year.
